Bordelonville man accused in grandparents' slaying has prior record
Sep 4, 2017The younger Mayeaux was booked into jail at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, the ending to a search that began around 7 a.m. when worried family members contacted the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office because Eloise "Patti" Mayeaux had not reported to her job at the Y-Not-Stop convenience station in Marksville. After the family couldn't reach either Patti Mayeaux, 67, or her 69-year-old husband, Hillman "T-Coon" Mayeaux, they went to the couple's home in the 6600 block of La. Highway 451 with deputies. They forced their way into the home, but there was no sign of the Mayeauxs. However, there were signs that something had happened in the home, something sinister enough to prompt the sheriff's office to declare the home a crime scene and to secure a search warrant for the property.By 12:45 p.m., both bodies of the grandparents had been found in a barn near the property. Sheriff Doug Anderson told The Town Talk on Thursday that the couple had been stabbed. Michael Mayeaux was found inside a closet at the home at 4:15 p.m., huddled under a blanket and some clothes, said Anderson. He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and resisting arrest. Bond has not been set as of Thursday morning, said the sheriff.Anderson also said no motive has been established for the slayings. Michael Mayeaux has a record with the sheriff's office, but mostly for minor offenses: disturbing the peace, contempt of court, resisting arrest, theft, failure to appear, simple battery and a possession of marijuana charge in 2005, said Anderson. He was not sure whether Michael Mayeaux had any arrests with other Avoyelles Parish law enforcement agencies.Hillman "T-Coon" Mayeaux and Eloise "Patti" Mayeaux (Photo: Courtesy/Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office)Word spread quickly through the parish about the couple's disappearance and the discovery of their bodies.
